Crews work around the clock to clear streets
Fatigue to both man and machine was evident Monday as city crews continued to clear roads of snowfall and ice from Thursday’s blizzard.

Oklahoma City spokeswoman Kristy Yager said crews made a second pass on city snow routes Monday, focusing on opening additional lanes where only one lane was open before and trying to clear intersections.

"We actually started tackling other routes that are not on snow routes but are highly traveled,” Yager said.

The biggest complications crews are fighting now are fatigue and the glut of abandoned vehicles on city streets. Yager said 60 to 70 city employees have been working 12-hour shifts since the snow storm began. The city’s plow and salt trucks are also having maintenance problems. Yager said five city trucks were out of commission Monday, bringing the total number of trucks on the road to 25.

Abandoned vehicles still littered the streets Monday, and city officials warned owners the vehicles will be towed if they aren’t removed soon.

Yager said about 150 vehicles have already been towed, most of which were blocking traffic along major streets.
