Indiana woman drowns at Fort Cobb Lake in choppy waters

An 18-year-old woman drowned went under while swimming Wednesday, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports. Severe weather hampered rescue efforts.

FORT COBB — An 18-year-old woman drowned while swimming at Fort Cobb Lake during high winds, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports.

Tessa Christian, 18, of Lafayette, Ind., drowned about 2 p.m. Wednesday, the patrol reports. She was found about 2:20 p.m. Thursday by a patrol dive team in 26 feet of water.

The body was about 200 yards south of Goose Island and 100 yards west of Cove Point.

Christian was swimming against the waves when she went under the choppy water in gusty winds and never resurfaced. Severe weather held up search efforts. has disabled the comments for this article.
