BAYARD >> The Cobre High baseball team improved to 8-0 in district play by sweeping Tularosa, 20-0, and 20-0, at Howie Morales Stadium.
Willie Fletcher threw a no-hitter in game one, as he struck out seven and walked just two batters.
"Willie was dominant in this game," head coach Artie Sanchez said. "He worked ahead and our defense was ready behind him. We also hit the ball very well and not leave runners on base."
Cobre pounded out 16 hits en route to the win. Andy Gomez was 3-for-4, with two doubles and five RBIs; Justin Diaz, 3-for-4, with a triple and three RBIs; Corey Roberson, 1-for-1, with an RBI; B.J. Dominguez, 1-for-1; Fletcher, 2-for-3; Hondo Tovar, 1-for-2, with an RBI; Cavin Roberson, 2-for-3, with two RBIs; Nick Salas, 1-for-4, with a triple; Claudio Salinas, 2-for-2, with two doubles and five RBIs; and Marcus Sanchez, 1-for-3, with an RBI.
The second game saw Cobre win again, 20-0. Fifteen hits were poured in, and Chico Perez picked up the win on the hill. He allowed just two hits, while striking out nine and walking just one batter.
"We were aggressive at the plate and it's always nice to be able to get all the kids in a bit," Sanchez said. "The guys off the bench produced hits and built on our lead."
