WASHINGTON — Sen. Jim Inhofe's re-election campaign will donate to charity $10,000 received from a political action committee controlled by indicted Republican Sen. Ted Stevens, Inhofe's campaign manager said Wednesday.
Josh Kivett said the money from the Northern Lights PAC would be donated to the Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity and the Tulsa affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. "This personal decision is an easy one because it is the right thing to do,” Kivett said. Inhofe, R-Tulsa, was among a handful of Republican senators to rid themselves of Northern Lights PAC money a day after Stevens, of Alaska, was indicted on seven felony counts of making false statements on his financial disclosure reports. According to the U.S. Justice Department, Stevens hid $250,000 in gifts and services from an Alaska-based energy company. Ivan Holmes, chairman of the Oklahoma Democratic Party, had called on Inhofe to return the money, saying Tuesday that Inhofe had accepted contributions from Stevens' PAC even though the Alaska senator had been under federal investigation for the past year.Toolbar sponsored by: David Stanley Ford
