Deadly tornado hits Woodward at 12:20 a.m.

The National Weather Service reported a tornado about 12:20 a.m. Sunday in the northwest Oklahoma city of Woodward. The Woodward News has reported five people were killed. Television storm spotters described the tornado as large when it went through western sections of the city.

WOODWARD — Five people were killed and several others injured and homes and businesses were damaged when a tornado touched down in Woodward.

The Woodward News reported two people southwest of Woodward near the Tangier Blacktop area, two children in the Hideaway Trailer Park and one other person were killed. Numerous injuries have been reported.

The National Weather Service reported a tornado about 12:20 a.m. Sunday in the northwest Oklahoma city of about 12,000. Television storm spotters described the tornado as large when it went through western sections of the city.

Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management spokeswoman Keli Cain says emergency responders have reported a number of injuries, but she didn't know how serious they were. Cain said homes had been damaged, and search and rescue efforts were under way.

Cain also said several homes had been damaged as a possible tornado moved through the Arnett area in Ellis County.

Tornadoes hit northwest Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon and left minor damage but no injuries in their wake.
