"Talking to him, he doesn't think it's as bad as last year,” Stoops said. Patrick missed two games when he sprained the same ankle last November.
•Reggie Smith, CB: The media's preseason Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year has a pulled hip flexor. He was fielding punts and jogging on the field during pre-scrimmage warm-ups.
"He could go out and go today, but we're gonna make sure that it's healed,” Stoops said. "I don't want it to bother him through the year.”
•Branndon Braxton, OL: The expected starter at right tackle is battling a minor injury to his lower leg, but will return to practice Monday.
•Darien Williams, FS: A key piece of the OU secondary, Williams hasn't practiced yet after having surgery for a stress fracture in his foot. Stoops says he will be back on the field Monday.
•Others: Fred Strong, Brody Eldridge, Kody Cooke, Jonte Bumpus, Eric Mensik.
