Oklahoma City firefighters extinguished a house fire that injured one person early Wednesday.

About 9:30 a.m. firefighters responded to the 4700 block of Kathy Drive following reports of a house fire.

One man was taken to Integris Baptist Medical Center in serious condition, said Lara O'Leary, spokeswoman for the Emergency Medical Services Authority.

Battalion Chief Tony Davis said the man suffered burns on his neck and chest and smoke inhalation. He was able to make it out of the house before fire crews arrived on the scene.

Davis said about half the home was destroyed and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
