No matter how much they seem to be progressing, the news on Hornets forward David West and Peja Stojakovic continues to get worse.

West, who has missed the team's past eight games because of a right elbow injury, likely will miss another two weeks while recovering. Stojakovic, who missed his second straight game Tuesday night because of a back injury, is day-to-day but will not play Friday against the Chicago Bulls.

An MRI Tuesday on Stojakovic's back showed no serious damage, but there is still no timetable for his return. Without West and Stojakovic, the team's second- and third-leading scorers, the Hornets must now find a way to compensate for 35.2 points and 12.5 rebounds.

"Obviously, I wish they both would be able to play Friday, but I'm going to make sure that both those guys are 100 percent," Hornets coach Byron Scott said. "If that means middle of December, then so be it. We're just going to have to make sure that we keep afloat, and other guys are going to have to step up."

At the conclusion of Wednesday's practice, West said team doctors have instructed him to refrain from any activity for a couple of more weeks. West said he has an inflamed joint in his right elbow, and doctors have limited his healing process to rest and medication.

"We're just dealing with one problem at a time," West said. "They wanted to get (assurance) about my nerves. And that's fine and has gotten better. Now we're just trying to deal with the inflammation and the swelling and hopefully get a handle on it.

"I've been seeing the doctor every other day. They're comfortable with the progress they've seen. Of course, I want it to be a little bit quicker."

West said he likely won't even travel with the team on next week's three-game West Coast trip.

West voiced frustration at how his teammates have lost four-straight games without him and turned a 4-0 start to an 8-7 record.

"You don't want to dig yourself a hole," West said. "We got a tough schedule. Hopefully, Peja will be back in the next week or so. We just want guys healthy. I'm just anxious to get back playing. I didn't anticipate missing this much time. But we've just got to be patient and let things heal."

Stojakovic, meanwhile, did not attend Wednesday's team practice. Although Stojakovic's injury is listed as back spasms and coach Scott said it's not serious, guard Bobby Jackson referred to Stojakovic's injury as a bulging disk.

"It's nothing that we're going to rush," Scott said of Stojakovic's injury. "We're going to make sure he's well, and it's the same thing with David. The good thing about both of them, especially with David, is that he's very frustrated. He wants to play and we know that.

"But we want him to be 100 percent. We can't have David out there at 70 percent, and he's hurting. I want him back when I know he's healthy, and he doesn't have to think about what he's doing out there or think about the injury. I want him out there just thinking about basketball."

The Hornets have looked confused on offense without them. After scoring a season-low 73 points last Saturday against the Dallas Mavericks, the Hornets scored just 77 against the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday. During the Hornets' four-game losing streak, they are averaging just 78 points on 37.8 percent shooting.

"They are a very, very big part of what we do," Scott said. "And when they're both in there it makes everybody else's job easier. It opens up the lane a lot more for C.P., because he's got two guys that can flat out shoot it."
