— An inmate was found dead in his cell Wednesday morning at the Oklahoma State Reformatory.

About 7:35 a.m., an officer received information that an inmate was down in his cell with blood around him, according to an incident report. Medical staff responded and detected a faint pulse, but were unable to sustain it through lifesaving measures. The inmate was pronounced dead at 7:45 a.m.

Neither the name of the inmate nor the cause of death was released Wednesday.

The prisoner shared a cell with another man, who was secured in an interview room of the prison's segregated housing unit. No charges had been filed against him, said state Corrections Department spokesman Jerry Massie. The prison's general population also was put on lockdown.

Massie said if the medical examiner rules the death a homicide, it would be the first within prison walls this year. has disabled the comments for this article.
