The whole thing about being a goalie is that it's kind of a pressure position. You can be a hero or a zero within a second.
It's not too bad wearing the mask now. The technology's come so far that you've got good protection and for the most part your vision is very good. You're the unique guy on the team, because everybody else has their face open. You're that guy that's behind the mask, and unless somebody's seen your picture, if you're up in the crowd nobody's going to know you. You're kind of the unknown face.
The only thing is, if you get a shot in the head, the way the masks are built, your ears will ring quite a bit.
The equipment I wear probably weighs around 45 to 50 pounds. When you pick up individual pieces it seems really light, but if you go to pick up my bag, it's not going to be an easy pickup. I wear leg pads, body armour that covers the arms and the chest, big goalie pants and goalie skates with plastic boot built around them.
