'Interference by politicians who presume to know better'

After reading “Oklahoma abortion appeal is rejected” (News, Nov. 13) I couldn't help but notice Reproductive Rights CEO Nancy Northup's statement about the ruling: “A woman's personal, private medical decision should be made in consultation with the health care professionals she trusts, without interference by politicians who presume to know better.” Northrup might have a point, but my health care premium has doubled over the past year and millions have recently lost their insurance because of “interference by politicians who presume to know better”!

Taxpayers have been mandated to join a health care system that many of us don't want. We've been told to use a certain light bulb to conserve energy, yet buy an overpriced electric car (which is subsidized by our tax dollars) that uses an exorbitant amount of electricity. Taxpayer money is used for wind farms, which lay large electrical lines across private property, yet we can't use private money to lay an oil pipeline across the United States because it supposedly hurts the environment!

I could go on. I believe Northup's true motive is really not women's rights. It's sex without consequences!
