Iris growing tips
According to the American Iris Society, bearded irises are easy to grow.
Plant in July, August or September at least four to six weeks before the first hard frost, so roots are well-established before the end of the growing season.
Plant irises where they will receive six to eight hours of sunlight a day.
Soil should be well-drained. A raised bed will help ensure drainage, as will adding compost to heavy soil, and gypsum to clay. Do not overwater.
Plant bulbs barely below the surface. Planting too deeply is a common mistake.
