“2014 Oklahoma Senior Follies takes stage” (Life, June 9) reported that Barry Switzer will get the show’s annual Ziggy Award and crowned “King of the Follies.” No mention was made of Switzer’s bigotry in a recent radio interview in which he declared, “I’ve always said I’d never recruit a white quarterback. The only way I’d ever recruit a white quarterback to play for me was if his mom and daddy would have to both be black, and that’s the only way I would do it.”
Imagine a young black, Asian, American Indian or Caucasian student hearing such a stupid comment and then seeing that same person held in high esteem. Great example, coach!
Oklahoma City University and the University of Oklahoma are strangely quiet on this issue, so they’re part of the problem.
