Other than the All-Star break, this is the Thunder's longest gap between games this season.
Is the four-day interval good or bad before OKC plays at Miami on Christmas Day? Is it good because it's a chance to rest and spend time with family and friends, or bad because the Thunder's last outing was a 99-93 loss Thursday at Minnesota that snapped a 12-game winning streak?
“I think it's good,” coach Scott Brooks said after Saturday's hourlong practice session. “We don't put a lot into whether we win or whether we lose (our most recent game). … I think it's always good to have rest between games. We can kind of rejuvenate the soul and come back with a fresh approach to the next game.”
FEELING THE HEAT
When preparing for the Heat, will Brooks review last year's NBA Finals that the Thunder lost 4-1, or will he solely concern himself with what Miami is doing this season?
“We're both playing a little bit different,” Brooks said. “You definitely take some things you did well and some things you could have done better (in the Finals) and try to implement some of it, but it's another year. Two different teams. We're playing a little different and they are a different style.”
In Miami, the 21-5 Thunder will try to avoid losing back-to-back games for the first time this season.
In the last three seasons, OKC is 39-9 (.813) after a loss. Chicago is the only team with a better record at 38-7 (.844).
Last Thursday at Minnesota was the first time in six back-to-back games this season that OKC has lost the second game.
Christmas carols played over the loudspeaker at the end of Saturday's practice.
Brooks joked that he borrowed Kendrick Perkins' iPod to hear some Christmas songs and the first carol he heard was “The Grinch.”
Sixth man Kevin Martin, who suffered a bruised quad Wednesday at Atlanta and missed his first game of the season Thursday in Minnesota, saw limited action in Saturday's light practice and remains day-to-day. … OKC wore its navy blue “third” uniform at Minnesota on Thursday and at Miami will wear the league's Christmas Day uniform, which is a lighter shade of blue with orange trim around the letters and numbers. … The Thunder will practice Sunday, will not practice before it leaves for Miami on Monday afternoon, and will not have a morning shootaround on Christmas Day. … Tuesday's tipoff is at 4:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on ABC. … The Heat, which hosted Utah on Saturday night, has played the fewest road games of any NBA team this season with nine (5-4).
Thunder forward Serge Ibaka on the anticipation of getting a blocked shot: “It's like my food, when I play.”
