Is Notre Dame as good as last year?

For the Sooner Nation, Notre Dame week has already begun.

With Oklahoma off this week, Sooner fans will be turning their attention Saturday to the Irish — and they’re likely to get to watch a great game as a result. Notre Dame hosts Michigan State at 2:30 p.m. on NBC, and if recent history is any indication, this will be a fantastic football game. Over the past 10 seasons, the Irish and Spartans have played 10 times, and each squad has won five times. But more than that, six of those 10 games have been decided by a touchdown our less. Four of those games have been decided by three points.

This has been a great, great series.

Will it be a great, great game on Saturday?

Neither team looks like a top-10 squad. Decent. Not great. So, there’s a chance that they’ll have another classic.

Then again, that’s not really what Sooner fans are concerned about. They want to know how the Irish looks. As good as last year? Better? Worse?

(In this week’s Press Row, Berry Tramel and I discuss our picks for the game. While we agree that the Irish will win, we also agree that this team isn’t at the level of last year’s squad.)

With OU not playing, here’s guessing the TV ratings for this Notre Dame game will be highest in Indiana, Michigan and Oklahoma.
