Point/counterpoint: Is OSU better off with Dez Bryant or without him?

→John Rohde: On the field, of course not. How could you be better without the best wide receiver in the country? But now there’s no more wishful thinking or looking over the shoulder. You know who is playing and who’s not.

→Brandon Chatmon: Dez is an elite talent who has the Pro Bowl in his future. The Cowboys’ offense with Dez is 10 times more dangerous than without him. And his kick and punt returns are what really separate him. He’s the type of player that wins games by himself, and just having him around makes OSU’s other receivers better.

→Rohde: But Dez not being around gave a bunch of receivers a chance they might not have gotten. Their experience grows and hopefully their confidence grows long with it. Indirectly, it’s an early start to next season for the younger players.

→Chatmon: There’s no doubt the Cowboys know a lot more about their receiver corps — outside of Dez — right now than they did at the beginning of the season. Anyiam, Fooks, Blackmon and Moore have all shown signs of being key playmakers in the future. But Dez is a once-a-decade-type player and a guy you just want to have on the team.

→Rohde: Even without Dez, your initial goals should remain the same: An upper division finish in the Big 12 South and an upper echelon bowl. It’s just a shame we’re all left to wonder what might have been.

→Chatmon: True enough the goals are the same, but the realization of those goals is a lot harder with Dez training for the NFL combine instead of making Big 12 DBs look silly. We’ll never know how good the Cowboys could have been, but one thing is certain: Dez Bryant makes them better.

10 times more dangerous ? What are you trying to do for us Brandon, tell the guys we, OSU, have playing now they don't count for much ? They're playing hard and getting better. We've been having guys make plays and touchdowns, including some plays against Texas. The offense needs to learn as much as they can from the bad outing against the Longhorns ... they need to be determined we don't beat ourselves making weak offensive plays against Tech, the Buffaloes or that great, Texas-like Sooner defense. But 10 times more dangerous with Bryant than without him ? Continue to play with great effort as Coach Gundy likes to say and the Pokes including their receivers have a good shot at getting in the Cotton Bowl or maybe even a BCS bowl. Go Cowboys !!

No doubt Dez is a great player. But wiothout him Zac has been a better QB because he's involved more receivers. With Dez, Zac seems to focus and throw mostly to Dez. With Dez the opponents knew that Zac was going throw to Dez. Now they're not sure and have to cover all the receivers.

What is the point of this point-counter-point? It is simply a moot issue. Debating it is idiotic (what else would you expect from Rohdent).
