An Islamic school in Oklahoma City recently received accreditation.

Mercy School, a private school founded by the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City, received accreditation by AdvancED in April, Imad Enchassi, the society's imam and president, said.

“It's a seven-year process. They monitor your curriculum, they monitor teacher certification and students who have graduated,” Enchassi said.

He said the school has been able to improve many things since it moved from a building at 3900 NW 39 Expressway to its current home at 14001 N Harvey just northwest of the intersection of Memorial Road and Santa Fe Avenue.

“That was the only hurdle,” Enchassi said.

He said the new sprawling school complex, opened in 2010, allowed the school to offer a library, science lab and other amenities that were not feasible at the previous location.

The school offers studies for youths in prekindergarten through 12th grade.
