The Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations will host a panel discussion entitled “Remembering Malcolm X: Passing On His Legacy,” at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City mosque, 3815 N St. Clair.

Adam Soltani, executive director of CAIR-Oklahoma, said the discussion will highlight Malcolm X's positive effects on society as a civil rights leader. He said Feb. 21 marks the anniversary of Malcolm X's assassination. Malcolm X was killed in 1965.

“Through this event we hope to discuss the impact of civil rights leaders such as Malcolm X, and how we can continue to pass on their legacy today,” Soltani said.

Panelists include Soltani; state Rep. Anastasia Pittman, D-Oklahoma City; and the Rev. Lance Schmitz, pastor of Capitol Hill Church of The Nazarene.
