Shane Parli tells his 13-year-old daughter, Bailee, he loves her as she settled in to the back seat of spray-painted car. “She is a little nervous because this is her first time playing the bride,” said Parli.

After taking a photograph of a rodeo barrel man taking shelter from a charging bull at the Edmond LibertyFest Rodeo, I needed to get his name. The bull riding had finished and I walked to the trailer of the man I just photographed.

The second-generation rodeo clown and barrel man from Morrison, Okla., said it’s really all about spending time with his family. With the help of his two children and father-in-law he provides comic entertainment between events and during delays in small rodeos across Oklahoma, Texas, and surrounding states.

Bailee’s legs dangled out of the back of a car that had popped a wheelie under the control of her 9-year-old brother, Cole. The Parli family had finished an act between events and was making their exit from the arena before preparing for their next act.

Shane grew up watching and helping his father, Gary Parli, perform some of the same acts his children are now helping him perform. “It gets in your blood,” said Parli.
