It's about time for Bedlam

BERRY TRAMEL — While Bob Stoops stands by his statement that ‘it's about time' OU wins a national championship, it's about time for a lot of other things, too.

— Bob Stoops said it. He stands by it. Even if it's not happening.

“It's about time” that OU wins another national championship, Stoops said in August.

It's about time...

We asked people on both sides of Bedlam to finish the following statement: It's about time…

OSU cornerback Brodrick Brown: “…for Oklahoma State to win a Big 12 championship. If we win this, everything else will fall into place.”

OU safety Aaron Colvin: “…to show everybody that we're a good secondary.”

OSU receiver Justin Blackmon: “…to eat. It's lunchtime. I came straight from class. I'm about to go eat some big greasy burger with fries. I'll run it off tomorrow in practice.”

OSU safety Daytawion Lowe: “…we get our first Big 12 championship. It would be great. Lovely. It would be one of my biggest accomplishments.”

OU receiver Dejuan Miller: “…I go home, eat, relax and watch my (New York) Giants.”

OSU defensive coordinator Bill Young: “…that we beat OU. It's been eight straight wins on their part. A rivalry is when they win one, we win one. I've been on both sides of that. It's a huge game for our program.”

OU cornerback Demontre Hurst: “…to go eat.”

OSU receiver Josh Cooper: “…to win the game. This Bedlam game. It's been nine years. It would mean a lot to me. It would mean a lot to everybody.”

Bold statement. Got everyone fired up. Then came Texas Tech, then came Baylor, and suddenly the Sooners were out of wiggle room. What else is there to say? “It's about damn time” in 2012?

Here's what Stoops actually said that night during the OU pep rally at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum: “I don't shy away from expectations. My feeling is, it's about time. We need to win. That's just how I am.”

Here's what Stoops said Tuesday during Bedlam Week, when the only team with a sniff of Big Bowl hopes is OSU: “I don't regret that. You don't think our people thought it's about time we got one, another one? I know how they are.”

I don't blame Stoops for saying what he said. He was right. It is about time the Sooners won another.
