It’s fun for all aboard Oklahoma City boats

A little boy crawling all over the canal boat could hardly contain his excitement. "Does it go underwater?” he gasped. "Nope,” the boat captain said. The boy slumped in his seat momentarily but then forgot his disappointment when the boat chugged away from the landing.

He twisted and jerked inside his winter coat; he couldn’t decide which way to face. There were too many lights, too many sounds and too many ducks floating on the Bricktown Canal.

When the captain started singing Jingle Bells, I was pretty sure this boy would explode with excitement.

I took a ride on a Bricktown Water Taxi this weekend as part of the annual Downtown in December series of events. Canal rides are free Thursdays through Sundays this month.

This was my first time to ride in a canal boat. I dismissed it as something for tourists. There were a few out-of-state visitors from Texas and Tennessee in our boat, but almost everyone was from Oklahoma. It was fun. Our boat captain told us the history of the Bricktown Canal and provided all kinds of factoids about the district.

While it was fun for me, it was ridiculously fun for the children on board. Giggly kids in hoodies and gloves squirmed in their seats. They sang, stared in awe at the lights and couldn’t stop moving.

If I had kids, I’d bring them for the free ride every week.

But I might not want to risk them exploding with excitement.

So, uh, Philip, the medications are working pretty good for you? Talk to your shrink about these 'images' you're experiencing, and maybe the dosage will be increased and you can love Oklahoma even more! ;)

Jeez mister, bogata, what a bunch of loser. You hate everything about Oklahoma. Yet, you ARE HERE. So sad that you do not have the strength, brains or ability to get out of this hell-hole (sic). I have traveled and lived in many parts of the United States. I choose to live in Oklahoma. People in my personal and business world love Oklahoma as I do. Sorry your world is so dark and dismal. I have this image of 50 or 60 of you complainers sitting in front of your screen, writing trash about Oklahoma, desperately hoping somebody, anybody will listen to your subconscious pitiful cry of entrapment and loneliness. .

Aaron if it is go great here why don't you move back ? No good jobs in OKC ? I thought not ! Wave and say hi to all your transplanted Okie brethren on your way to work there in DFW ! And Oklahoma City will never be able to handle a candle to San Antonio.

Getting married on Dec 27th and staying at the Skirvin before our flight out! Looking forward to it.

Way to go OKC! I thought it was stupid at first, (wanting to be San Antonio). But everything that has been done is worth it. I didn't directly pay taxes for MAPs (I'm an Edmond kid), but I do when I go downtown and have a good time. Living in the Dallas area now, I really appreciate what OKC has to offer without all the BS of Dallas. It is worth the 3 hour drive for me on special occasions.
