Jackson County wreck kills Mangum motorist

Oklahoman Published: December 10, 2001

ALTUS - A Mangum man is dead after a collision Saturday in southwestern Oklahoma.

H.J. Moore, 83, was driving on a county road two miles west of Altus in Jackson County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

His vehicle collided with a pickup about 3 p.m. at an intersection of two county roads. The pickup was driven by Joshua Lee Harvey, 17, of Duke, the patrol said.

Troopers said Moore died at the scene from massive head and neck injuries.

Harvey was treated for a head injury at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. A nurse supervisor would not release Harvey's condition Sunday. His passenger, Damion Surles, 19, of Duke, was not injured.

The patrol did not release information about seat belt use but said air bags deployed in both vehicles.
