JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Jackson State's baseball team returned to campus late Monday night after a fire destroyed the team's bus outside of Birmingham, Alabama, earlier in the day.
There were no reported injuries in the fire, which occurred during the team's trip to play at Savannah State, but the team did lose equipment and uniforms.
Jackson State spokesman Wesley Peterson said in a statement that Ole Miss and Mississippi State have offered assistance to help the Tigers get ready for the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament next week.
Jackson State President Carolyn W. Meyers says the school is "relieved that everyone is safe. We appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers." She added the school would have an "exhaustive investigation into this unfortunate incident."
Peterson says the team hopes to return to practice on Wednesday.
