Jail conversations show Oklahoma City man charged in shooting, robbery had money troubles

Christopher Travis Baker, 30, of Oklahoma City, is charged with shooting with intent to kill and robbery with a firearm.

Prosecutors allege Baker ambushed John Waldenville on May 21, 2011, just after midnight, as he walked to a nearby bank to deposit money for the restaurant where he worked as a security guard.

Waldenville, 61, was shot in the face and lost his right eye.

Jurors listened to recordings of several phone conversations between Baker and Lotoya Sims, his girlfriend at the time.

During one of those calls, Baker appears to show little remorse for his actions, even though he does not acknowledge shooting or robbing anyone.

“Had to make some moves,” Baker said from a phone in his cell at the Oklahoma County jail.

Sims, a reluctant witness who cried throughout her testimony, is overheard telling Baker, “I wish we could go back to that day.”

“I still woulda' did …,” Baker tells Sims. “Woulda' did what I did.”
