Jamie Lee Curtis is good at making friends.

A common joke and question that her family asks is, “How many friends did you make today, Jamie?”

She attributes her ability to connect with people to the fact that she's open.

“I talk to people all day long, and I'm an extrovert in that way,” she said. “I'll get in an elevator, and instead of eight strangers staring up at the numbers as we go up, I'll talk to people, I'll crack a joke. If the elevator all of a sudden bumps or makes a noise, I'll go, ‘OK, if there's an emergency here, I'm going to designate myself team leader, and I'm going to have you be in charge of food' — because it's just my nature.”

Curtis's keen ability to connect with people will likely be apparent when she visits Oklahoma City on Sept. 29. During the Integris Women's Health Forum, Curtis will give a speech titled “Live Wisely, Love Well: An Evening With Jamie Lee Curtis.”

Curtis enjoys people and genuine dialogue. She has spoken out about body image issues and her recovery from prescription painkillers.

Those are the things she thrives to discuss and connect with people on. But that connection isn't always easy to find in the midst of Hollywood.

As Curtis has gotten older, she has become more private. She craves quiet sometimes. And because of that, she will go to great lengths to avoid paparazzi and disingenuous attention.

For example, she has walked alleys and through building basements to avoid the TMZ Hollywood Tour bus, a tour given by the popular gossip site that prides itself in exclusive celebrity “news.”

She parks blocks away and has gone miles out of her way to avoid that swirl of attention.
