About 500 people gathered to watch a daytime fireworks display Wednesday at Crosslin Park. Unlike nighttime fireworks, the display consisted of colored smoke and parachutes shot hundreds of feet in the air that float back to Earth.

Japanese production company Dentsu Tec collaborated with Enid fireworks manufacturer Western Enterprises for the display, which was to commemorate an 1883 patent for daytime fireworks issued to a Japanese citizen. The show was originally going to be held in Washington, D.C., but officials there were concerned about the safety of the parachutes near major airports and highways.
