NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma head football coach Bob Stoops announced Friday that he has dismissed freshman wide receiver Josh Jarboe from the team.

“We are disappointed in this outcome, but our complete review and this final decision is in the best interest of our program” Stoops said. “We outlined for Josh the expectations we had for him when he arrived and, unfortunately, those expectations have not been met. Josh needs to learn from this experience. We hope he can move forward in a positive manner.”

OU’s players are set to convene in Norman Sunday to begin drills for the 2008 season.

Jarboe came under scrutiny this week after a video was posted online of Jarboe rapping about, among other things, guns and shooting people.

Jarboe pleaded guilty to felony charges of theft by receiving stolen property and bringing a gun to school in May.

Under Georgia's First Offenders Act, Judge Michael Hancock reduced the charges to misdemeanors on Thursday, since Jarboe had no prior convictions.

Jarboe will serve two years probation and perform 80 hours of community service.

Jarboe was considered one of the top-10 receiver recruits in the nation coming out of Cedar Grove High School in Georgia.

In February he signed with OU after considering Florida, Georgia and LSU.

On March 6, Jarboe was arrested for bringing a stolen gun to Cedar Grove.

According to the police report, Jarboe and a friend, Josh Davis, drove into a Cedar Grove parking lot about 3:30 p.m. for a track meet.

That's when Jarboe walked to the back of the car and pulled out a loaded. Incident Report Watch Jarboe's rap (Warning: Graphic content)
