Josh Jarboe will be back in Oklahoma before long. The former Oklahoma freshman wide receiver has enrolled at Troy, the university announced Wednesday. Troy spokesman Ricky Hazel said the Alabama school is still trying to determine whether Jarboe will be allowed to play this season or sit out one season under NCAA rules. If declared eligible, Jarboe could have an instant impact on a Trojan offense that averaged 34 points per game last season. The Trojans gained 562 yards during last season's 41-23 defeat of Oklahoma State. Troy, defending co-champs of the Sun Belt Conference, travels to OSU on Sept. 27. "Troy University has always been interested in providing opportunities for young people to better themselves, and this is a situation where a young man who has made some mistakes is looking for a second chance,” Trojans coach Larry Blakeney said in a statement. "I have met with Josh, and I am convinced that he is ready, and willing, to do the things we need for him to do to be a productive member of both this football team and the Troy University community.” Sooner coach Bob Stoops dismissed Jarboe from the team two weeks ago after a video of Jarboe's obscenity-laced rap about shooting people made its way around the Internet. Jarboe had been arrested in the spring for bringing a stolen gun to his Georgia high school campus. He pleaded guilty on two felony gun counts that a judge reduced to misdemeanors under Georgia's First Offender's Act, allowing Jarboe to initially keep his scholarship under OU policy. "We outlined for Josh the expectations we had for him when he arrived and, unfortunately, those expectations have not been met,” Stoops said then. "Josh needs to learn from this experience. We hope he can move forward in a positive manner.” Jarboe will have a familiar face in Troy. Fellow freshman wide receiver Chip Reeves is also from Georgia's DeKalb County. Reeves, who chose to go to Troy over Auburn, Tennessee and Virginia Tech, should team with Jarboe to give the Trojans a potent, young wide receiving duo for the next few seasons.Comments
