The Jay Middle School principal and his son were two of the people in a boat crash that killed a third person over the weekend.

Shane Carroll and his son, Brooks, 17, both of Jay, were in a 20-foot boat when it struck a breakwater structure about 2 a.m. Sunday on Grand Lake.

Also in the boat were family friends Brian Smith, address unknown, and Monte Lee Price, 39, of Jay.

Price's body was recovered about 2:15 p.m. in 50 feet of water in the Duck Creek arm of Grand Lake.

A spokeswoman for St. Francis Health Systems said she had no information about Shane Carroll or Brian Smith. However, a family friend who asked not to be identified said the elder Carroll was hospitalized with injuries to his jaw and both forearms.

None wore life jackets

Three of the four passengers were thrown from the boat, and Grand River Dam Authority police said no one was wearing a life jacket.

According to a post on Brooks Carroll's Facebook page, he was released Monday from a Tulsa hospital.
