— A Jay Middle School principal was found not guilty Thursday of manslaughter related to a fatal boating accident on Grand Lake that killed one of his friends.

Roger Shane Carroll, 39, of Eucha, was charged in Delaware County District Court in the death of Monte Price, 39, of Jay.

Price and Carroll had been friends since they were children and were among four people on a passenger boat that hit a breakwater structure near Arrowhead South Marina about 2 a.m. July 29.

The collision threw Price from the boat. His body was found the next day in about 50 feet of water in the Duck Creek arm of Grand Lake.

A Grand River Dam Authority report blamed excessive speed and alcohol use for the crash. Another passenger on the boat testified that Carroll was driving, but Carroll insisted Price was driving.
