Jazz concert set at Santa Fe Depot in Norman
Ivan Pena's World Music Group will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Santa Fe Depot in Norman.
NORMAN — Ivan Pena's World Music Group will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Santa Fe Depot, 200 S Jones Ave., as part of the Sunday Jazz Concert Series. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students.
As part of the family-oriented event, a comedian will perform at intermission and refreshments will be served.
Pena's World Music Group features drummer/bass player Jemar Poteat; Atiba Chike Williams on steelpan; Robert Mansfield on keyboard, accordion and qanun; and Pena on guitar.
Pena took up the guitar at age 18, inspired by the music of Django Reinhardt. He plays acoustic folklore, swing and acid jazz.
Concert tickets are available in advance at the depot and at the door.
Before the concert, award-winning poet Nathan Brown, of Norman, will be featured artist at the Second Sunday Poetry Reading at the depot. The free reading begins at 2 p.m.
Brown has published eight books and has worked as a songwriter and musician for 15 years in and around the metro area, Nashville, Tenn., and Austin, Texas.
He holds a doctorate in creative and professional writing from the University of Oklahoma and has taught in OU's human relations and liberal studies departments. He has served as artist-in-residence at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
