— Oklahoma City jazz guitarist Maurice Johnson will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Santa Fe Depot as part of the Performing Arts Studio's Sunday Jazz Concert Series. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students.

Johnson will be accompanied by Todd Balcom, drums; Dominique Taplin, keyboards; and Mike McKinney, bass.

Johnson first gained notice in 1985 after forming the Oklahoma City-based “After Five” band. The band shared the stage with major acts including George Benson, George Howard, Nancy Wilson, Al Green, Larry Coryell and Jennifer Holiday. In 1991 the group signed with the New York label, Warlock Records, and released the CD “Expressions.”

In 2010 Johnson debuted his independent release of “Tonight,” under the indie label Jazz Drops Records. A second CD, “Peace, Love and Jazz,” was released recently under the same label.

Before the concert, award-winning poet Ken Hada will give a free poetry reading at 2 p.m. at the depot. Hada has five poetry collections including “Spare Parts,” which won the National Western Heritage Award. He contributes regularly to a poetry blog.
