Jeff Zinn to remain Anadarko girls basketball coach

by Jacob Unruh Published: June 11, 2013

Jeff Zinn decided last week to remain at Anadarko, just one month after he accepted the girls basketball position at Cushing.

Anadarko advanced the Class 4A semifinals last season after winning the state championship in 2012. Cushing also made the semifinals last season.

Zinn said the choice to remain with the Warriors came down to where his heart was.

“It was one of those deals where everything was great at Cushing but there was something that was tearing at us the whole time,” he said. “You never know if you’re doing the right thing or not and everybody says, ‘Well, it’s a business.’ Well, it’s not a business; you’re in the profession of caring for kids and others and your heart has a lot to do with it and we just felt that we could probably best serve here.”

Zinn staying in Anadarko now leaves Cushing scrambling to find a coach.

“I just hate it because they’re such good people and I got to know some of the kids,” Zinn said. “They’re as good as it gets, as far as that goes. I feel bad because I left them in a bind right now … but hopefully they’ll be able to go find somebody to take it.”
