The Rev. Wendy Lambert, an associate pastor at the church, said the Food and Festival of Faiths is designed to bring the faith communities together in an informal, festive setting.

"We really believe that God calls us to live as people of peace,” Lambert said. "We celebrate the differences between us, and all that we hold in common as well.”

She said participants will be able to sample different foods and learn about various faith traditions as they visit tables set up in the church’s Christian Life Center. She said the food and fellowship time will be from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., followed by a short joint worship service.

Marjan Seirafi-Pour, a member of the Oklahoma City-area Muslim community, said her community is pleased to be part of the festival bringing the three Abrahamic faiths together.

"In order for us all to get to know each other and to get to know our traditions, I think it’s very important to have events like this,” she said.

Lambert said the event is free, but people are encouraged to preregister so organizers can prepare enough food.

"We have neighbors of the Jewish and Muslim traditions, and we believe this will be a fun night to celebrate together,” Lambert said.

St. Luke’s is no stranger to the interfaith arena. Last November, the church was one of the sponsors of the first Oklahoma City-area Amazing Faiths Project. The project brought together people of different faiths for informal meals and fellowship at homes across the metro area.

And in March 2008, the church hosted an interfaith presentation featuring the authors of "The Faith Club,” three New York mothers from the Christian, Jewish and Muslim faith communities who began meeting to gain insights about each others’ faith beliefs in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
