Job freeze in Oklahoma won’t thaw

A state hiring freeze in place for more than a decade will remain in place.

The executive order issued by Gov. Brad Henry this month was expected, considering the freeze remained in effect four years ago when the state had more than $200 million in excess revenues. A state surplus was generated for each of the next two years until last year, when legislators approved a standstill budget as revenues fell.
