Joel Embiid, considered the front-runner to be the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft, has suffered a foot injury, his mentor confirmed to ESPN.com.

The 7-foot Kansas product was already dealing with questions about a back injury entering the draft process, but an injury to his right foot may drop his stock even lower. Embiid's agent Arn Tellem confirmed the injury to ESPN by phone on Thursday.

Embiid missed the Big 12 and NCAA Tournament at the end of his freshman season due to a back injury. He averaged 11.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks in his only season with the Jayhawks, earning Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Embiid's injury may send ripples through the top of the draft, particularly with the status of Oklahoma State point guard Marcus Smart, who is projected as a top 10 pick.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are slated to pick No. 1 overall in the June 26 draft.
