How is the punt returner competition looking?

This is a question that could linger throughout camp, as nobody seized the job in the spring. David Glidden could be a factor once he’s full speed; he excelled as a return man at Mustang. Josh Stewart, who has some make-you-miss skills, must prove he’s improved in catching the ball. Justin Gilbert is another option. Even true freshman Caleb Muncrief has gotten some looks. The Cowboys weren’t very good at punt returns a year ago and are committed to being better.

Last year OSU's defense gave up a lot of yards to their opponent. Mainly because of the amount of time they had to spend on the field due to quick scoring offense. Do you see OSU's defense being helped out by possibly not having to be on the field quite as much?

As long as that doesn't mean the offense takes a step back, I'm sure Bill Young and his guys would be all for it. A year ago, the Cowboys scored a lot and they often scored fast, putting the defense back on the field. That's tough on a defense. And it skews the numbers, because they're required to be on the field more than defenses on teams with more controlled offenses. If you look deeper into the stats, the Cowboys weren't bad in average yards per play and they led the Big 12 in scoring defense.
