With former Oklahoma State running back Joseph Randle injured, the Dallas Cowboys re-signed running back Phillip Tanner to bolster the running game.
The Cowboys already have former OU running back DeMarco Murray firmly set in the No. 1 spot, and Lance Dunbar projects as the No. 2 back. A series of injuries to Randle and Ryan Williams has opened up an opportunity for Tanner.
Randle, a fifth-round pick out of OSU in 2013, has been sidelined this week after suffering an oblique injury against Miami on Saturday. He had some flashes of good play on special teams against the Dolphins, which could give him an edge over Williams for the No. 3 running back spot.
DallasCowboys.com writer Nick Eatman says the team has elected to keep four RBs on the roster in recent times, meaning Randle is one of three players fighting for two spots.
