Junior college transfer Devante Bond continues to make a strong impression.
“Just a lot of versatility,” fellow linebacker Dominique Alexander said. “He weighs 245, runs a 4.5 or 4.6. He can just play ball. If he was to carry a tight end up the seam, he can run with him. He can catch a back in the flat. And then his pass rush is great too. He’s real fast. He has a Tomahawk Chop move that nobody can stop. He brings a lot to the table.”
Bond is working at “jack” linebacker with Geneo Grissom, who moved from defensive end after last season.
“That’s good competition right now,” Sooners linebacker coach Tim Kish said just before practice began, calling Bond an “excellent pass rusher.” “Nothing’s set in stone yet.
“Third-down situations, you know, we can utilize all their talent. We’ll be doing some things to move some people around and get our best 11 on the field in certain situations like that, and Devante will be a big factor.”
