Oklahoma judge agrees to remove ankle monitor of man charged in pregnant wife's death

A judge signed an order Thursday to remove the ankle monitor on a man charged in the death of his wife and her unborn child, a possible indication authorities believe someone else committed the crime.

Oklahoma County Special Judge Fred D. Doak signed the order, agreed to by prosecution and defense attorneys, nearly three months after setting bail at $100,000 for Justin Adams, who faces two first-degree murder charges. Adams was required to wear the tracking device as a condition of his release from jail.

Doak also delayed Friday's preliminary hearing for Adams, the second such postponement. It is now set for Jan. 9.

A judge decides at a preliminary hearing whether sufficient evidence exists to send a defendant to trial.

Defense attorney Irven Box has claimed from the time Adams, 25, was arrested in February that his client was wrongly accused in the killing of his wife, Jaymie Adams, 25. Her body was found Jan. 7 at a dirt bike track in southeast Oklahoma City.

The medical examiner said she was stabbed multiple times and suffered blunt force trauma.

“I believe police arrested the wrong man for the murder of Jaymie Adams,” Box said Thursday.

District Attorney David Prater did not return phone calls seeking comment.

Oklahoma County Public Defender Robert Ravitz called the latest development in the case “unusual.”
