McALESTER — A judge has declared a mistrial after jurors deadlocked in the trial for a former Pittsburg County Court drug court coordinator accused of embezzling money.

Angela Marcum had been charged with embezzlement of public money and with destroying or hiding a public record. Marcum had pleaded not guilty to the charges.

A local newspaper reports District Judge Ken Adair declared a mistrial early Saturday after the 12-member jury said it had deadlocked after hearing more than seven days of testimony.

Prosecutors argued Marcum was required to make daily deposits of money collected from drug court participants to the county treasurer’s office. They say thousands of dollars was never deposited.

Marcum’s attorney had countered that her client was not the only person who had access to the drug court money.
