TULSA — A Tulsa County judge refused Monday to increase bail for a man charged with two counts of first-degree murder and five counts of assault and battery. The decision came despite objections from the district attorney citing public safety and the possibility of flight risk. Bail for Andrew A. Mathis, 24, stayed $525,000.

Mathis has been in the Tulsa County jail since Nov. 1, when he was arrested and accused of ramming his car into a group of men after an argument over his ex-girlfriend. Mathis is accused of killing Carlos F. Lopez Jr., 30, of Midland, Texas, and Dennis L. Cox, 38, of Kimberling City, Mo.

Special Judge Millie Otey said Mathis is still in jail, showing that the bond amount set 11 days earlier has worked and he is not a flight risk. If he is released on bail, he must wear an electronic monitor.
