June 1-Aug. 31 for the central Oklahoma region was the 12th wettest period on record, according to the Oklahoma Climatological Survey

As Gary McManus of the Oklahoma Climatological Survey has said many times, for record keeping purposes, climatologists consider summer as June 1 through Aug. 31.

So here’s a look at that time period and the Oklahoma Climatological Survey’s “Rainfall summaries by climate division.”

The statewide average of 11.92 inches of rain was 2.15  inches above normal and the 25th wettest on record since 1921.

The central Oklahoma region averaged 15.28 inches of rain, which was 5.5 inches above normal and the 12th wettest on record. The wettest on record for that region is 25.05 in 2007.

While the southwest region of  Oklahoma had its 36th wettest period of June 1-Aug.31, that area had its 21st driest stretch when looking at the last 365 days.

The Panhandle region had its 24th wettest June 1-Aug. 31. But, the last 365 days are the 17th driest.

And for some areas of the state, the drought has been more on than off since 2010.
