Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) and the Oklahoma City RedHawks are teaming up with an All-American Blood Drive to boost the blood supply for the Independence Day holiday week.
All healthy adults, 16 and older* who donate blood 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, June 29, at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark will score two tickets to the July 3rd RedHawks baseball game and fireworks show and a special edition 2013 All-American T-shirt.
“The All-American Blood Drive plays an important part in maintaining the necessary blood supply for area medical facilities,” said RedHawks President/General Manager Michael Byrnes. “The RedHawks want to show our appreciation for all the donors who participate by having them be a part of our Independence Day celebration.”
The RedHawks are providing free parking, just east of the ballpark on Reno and South Joe Carter Drive, for donors during the blood drive. Hot dogs will be served, and kids’ activities will be available. Donors will also receive two tickets to the Oklahoma City Zoo and a T-shirt.
“Holidays put incredible stress on the blood supply for patients in our state,” said John Armitage, M.D., Oklahoma Blood Institute president and CEO. “We are grateful for all donors who make time to help their fellow Oklahomans who will need blood through the Independence Day holiday, when our donations tend to decline.”
Donations can be made every 56 days. OBI supplies every drop of blood needed by more than 140 medical facilities in Oklahoma, including all in the metro area.
Oklahoma Blood Institute is the eighth largest, non-profit blood center in America.
Appointments to donate are not required but can be scheduled by calling 1-877-340-8777, or visiting www.obi.org.
