KASHIWA, Japan (AP) — Japanese J-League side Kashiwa Reysol beat Argentine team Lanus 2-1 on Wednesday in the Suruga Bank Championship.
Midfielder Kaoru Takayama converted a through pass from Brazilian striker Leandro to put the hosts ahead in the last minute of the first half in sweltering conditions at the Hitachi Stadium.
"Leandro made a great pass and all I had to do was redirect it in," said scorer Takayama.
Lanus midfielder Leandro Somoza scored an equalizer for the visitors in the 59th minute but Leandro netted a last-minute winner from the penalty spot after Masato Kudo was taken down in the area by Diego Braghieri.
Lanus' Diego Gonzalez was sent off in second half stoppage time shortly before the final whistle.
The match, organized each year, sees the winners of the Copa Sudamericana and the J-League Cup come head-to-head.
Wednesday's match was the seventh edition of the championship. J-League clubs have won four straight titles.
