Katharine McPhee may be a Los Angeles girl at heart, but the Smash star is finding herself developing a major soft spot for New York City, where she shoots the show.

"I never thought I would lean towards the east coast but I was excited to move here for the show," McPhee told Parade.com after performing at the unveiling of a 6,000 square foot American flag in Bryant Park on Tuesday (it's part of Tide's honoring of Team USA; the flag was constructed using the stories of 1,000 Americans about what red, white and blue mean to them).

"It was always my dream to shoot in New York City. But it took me six months to get used to living here and then I became obsessed," she continued. "I'm actually finding myself thinking about buying a place here or finding a more permanent residence here. I'm not sure if I'll live here my entire life but I don't know! Something totally changed and I'm obsessed with being here. I'm really happy here."

McPhee will begin production on season 2 of the show in a week but teased a few tidbits on what is to come. Read on for more!

"There is definitely going to be a transition in Karen. I don't think it will change the essence of who she is. You really saw Karen change in that last episode. She's not edgy in a bad way but how she reacts to people is different. Even in her interaction with Ivy. She knows someone did her wrong and that changes things. I don't know where the writing is going but I'm excited to explore a little more of that."

On Derek and Karen's chemistry.
"I obviously love Jack Davenport [who plays Derek Wills, director of "Bombshell"] and we have a great rapport together. We enjoy working together and I think I have a little bit of an idea of where that might go between the two of them. In season two, they'll definitely have a lot of interaction. When you watch that final episide and look back throughout the first season, you can see these quick little moments that might mean more than you might have originally thought.
