While paddler Carrie Johnson punched her ticket to the Olympic Games in the women's 500 meters Friday, the other American spot in the men's 200 meters must still to be determined.
Ryan Dolan of Kailua, Hawaii could have made the Olympic team with a victory Friday on the Oklahoma River, but he was beaten at the finish in the men's 200 meters single kayak by Tim Hornsby of Atlanta.
Hornsby's winning time was 37.970 while Dolan finished in 38.05. The two must now race again in May in the World Cup in Germany to determine who will represent the United States in the event in the London Olympics.
“I am a little disappointed in myself,” said Dolan, who was the favorite in the race. “I felt like I was leading and for whatever reason slowed down. Hat's off to Tim. He had a great race. Me and him have been going at it for the last two years in the 200. He got me today.”
