NORMAN — Former Sooner Kellen Sampson has rejoined the Oklahoma basketball program as a graduate assistant, multiple sources confirmed Friday.

Sampson will be part of OU coach Jeff Capel's staff for the 2008-09 season.

Sampson was a grad assistant for his father and former OU coach Kelvin Sampson at Indiana last season. Before that, Kellen spent four years as a walk-on for the Sooners.

Kelvin Sampson resigned in February during his first season at Indiana under a dark cloud of NCAA violations. The Sooners came under NCAA sanctions at the end of Sampson's 12-year stint at OU. He is now working for the Milwaukee Bucks of the NBA.

OSU fan, Mitch's rant make as much sense as bashing Kellen for something someone else did. Are OSU fans the only ones allowed a tangent?

From all credible sources, Kellen has a bright basketball mind. Always heard that he was a good kid too. Glad to have him with the program. Btw, what kind of moron judges someone based on what a relative did? Not like you can pick your family, or even make their choices for them.

Mitch. Can you explain why you went on a rant about OU football? This article is about basketball, and has nothing to do with OSU. Talk about your own insecurities. All I remember about Kellen is how obnoxious he was at the end of the bench. Hell of a cheerleader though.

Fred you get your jollies off by being Mr English teacher. You are such a loser!! You were probably one of the guys sniffing bicycle seats on the OU campus. Get a life

Okay Fred I was on an athletic scholership. Academics was not that important. Probably should have went to OSU. Fred you were probably a bathroom queen anyway.

John - I am embarrassed that you went to my alma mater. Do you know the difference between write and right? They are two different words with two different meanings!

Kellen is not Kelvin. And for the OSU fans who criticize you have got to be kidding! You have linoized Eddie Sutton because he won for you and overlooked a long history of viloations and trouble. The truth is Eddie was involved in scandal at Kentucky. Unfortunately, he almost took an innocent life due to his inability to stop drinking. Under Sean, many players were arrested for DUI and local bar owners frequently noted the use of fake ID's for players. Do the OSU fans think all the players who came to play for Eddie were recruited legitimately? Coach Sutton has many fine qualities and is essentially a good man despite his problems. We all have them. Kellen Sampson will judged on his actions. I understand a century of whippings from OU in football has caused lifelong problems for some but that is how it goes. Heck, OU even has a healthy lead in the basketball series and has more baseball titles than OSU. OSU has golf and OU has gymnastics. But let us not fool ourselves. This is,was and will always be a football state. T-Boone can gift a trillion dollars to the program and the most likely destination come December will still be Shreveport. Both programs haul in questionable recruits so the "moral" scoreboard is about even. With saints or cons for each OU will still be the dominant football power in this state...Must we again trot out the 500 national wrestling ttles? this is a sport with almost NO interest. ESPN covers spelling bees and hot dog eating events but not college wrestling so that says something. You are more likely to see "Best Ranger" competition and re-runs of Curt Gowdy hunting with Ted Williams than you are a college wrestling dual.

Kellen needs to start at a NAIA or Div 3 program like a lot of other grad ass's do. Not D-1 write out of school. I went to OU when he was there and he is a major suck-up. Ask some students that knew him at Norman or OU and they will tell you the same. Brown Nose Delux!!!

For all of you nimrods that are bashing Kellen Sampson, I guess in affect you are saying that Coach Capel doesn't know what he is doing? OU is very fortunate to have Capel as the head bball coach now, and if he has confidence in Kellen Sampson, that's good enough for me. Don't blame the son for the wrongs committed by the father. It's a good time to be a Sooner. Why don't some of you try building the program up instead of shooting off hateful comments?

Get your facts straight Michael...Eddie was no more of a cheat than Stoops is. It was boosters paying players, sound familiar (cough***big red sports"""cough)? As far as the NCAA is concerned his record is clear. And before you peg me as one of your LosuR or LouSER fans (see how it works both ways) I will tell you that my degree came from UCO and I just enjoy college athletics in general and I think all of you who get on here and attack one school or another are useless trolls who should get a life. Now lets go win a couple of baseball games today and make the entire state proud and look good...

As you can see, Kelvin still has some pull at OU. I wonder who Kelvin's boy-friend is up-there. Maybe Boren?
Theus, Oklahoma city - May 31, 2008 at 12:16 pm
You can tell the LosuR fans are out in force.....It isn't a disgrace. If we were all judged based on our previous generations, no one would have any kind of chance in life. Let the young man be his own man and make his own decisions and then judge him! His dad was a great coach for the Sooners....but he broke some rules and now he isn't the coach. Folks in Stoolwater hired a known cheat....and a drunk....didn't bother you! BOOMER SOONER!
Michael, Oklahoma City - May 31, 2008 at 10:39 am
As a sooner fan this is a disgrace. His dad will go down as one of the worst people ever to head coach the sooners, and now they hire his son. It was well and good to let him finish his career even though he would have never played on the team without his dad, but this goes to show you that they are making more bad choices. Let him be the trainer or towel boy for the Bucks.
