Kendrick Perkins played in his first NBA game in 2003 at the age of 19 years and 33 days.

With no minimum age requirement in the NBA, the Memphis Grizzlies drafted Perkins No. 27 overall in 2003 directly out of Clifton J. Ozen High School in Beaumont, Texas, then traded him to the Boston Celtics along with Marcus Banks in exchange for Troy Bell and Dahntay Jones.

Perkins was a 2003 McDonald's High School All-American and led Ozen to four district championships and one state title.

He has started 335 of 454 games in the NBA.

Known for his huge hands and physical play, Perkins was second in the NBA in field-goal percentage last season (.602). He was sixth in blocked shots in 2008-09 (150) and ninth in blocked shots last season (132). In the league's defensive rating, Perkins ranked fourth in 2007-08 and fifth in 2008-09.

One of his biggest fans is former Oklahoma coach Billy Tubbs, who spent nearly three decades living in Beaumont.
