Kenny Smith resigns as Noble boys basketball coach

by Scott Wright Published: May 23, 2013

Two months after coaching Noble to its first state tournament appearance in boys basketball since 1995, Kenny Smith has stepped down.

The Bears went 14-14 this past season, but surged through the playoffs to reach the Class 5A state tournament, losing in the first round. They’ll return their leading scorer, guard Leland Palmer, who averaged more than 16 points per game as a junior.

Smith did not relinquish his teaching position with the school, but hopes to pursue other basketball coaching opportunities.

“I just felt like it was time for a change,” Smith said. “I went ahead and resigned now, because I wanted the team to have the opportunity to prepare for the future over the summer.”
